Live-in/Live-out

  • In-Home Respite services are support services which typically include:

    • Assisting the family members to enable a person with developmental disabilities to stay at home

    • Providing appropriate care and supervision to protect that person's safety in the absence of a family member

    • Relieving family members from the constantly demanding responsibility of providing care

    • Attending to basic self-help needs and other activities that would ordinarily be performed by the family member

  • Live-in/Live-out care
With live-in care, one caregiver is booked daily for a 24 hour period. One caregiver can be booked for a maximum of four to five days per week depending on the location. For the other days, a different caregiver will be booked. In the 24 hour period, a 4 hour break is given to the daytime caregiver and you can decide if you want coverage for these 4 hours or not. For a live-in shift, the caregiver is allowed an 8 hour sleeping break and a sleeping bed must be provided for this caregiver. Live-in care is billed at a flat rate per day and if the 4 hour break coverage is requested then the break is billed at an hourly rate.

  • With 24 hour care, two caregivers are booked daily and work 12 hours each. Sometimes clients prefer to book 3 x 8 hour visits in order to ensure caregivers are at their maximum level of alertness. One caregiver can work a maximum of 4 x 12 hour visits per week. so different caregivers will be booked to cover the remaining visits. There is no sleeping break given to a caregiver during a 12 hour visit. However, you can allow the overnight caregiver to sleep if you choose to. 24 hour care is billed at an hourly rate. For the overnight visit, the rate is billed at a flat rate if it’s a sleeping visit or an hourly rate if it is a non-sleeping visit.

    POST DISCHARGE SERVICES

Seniors returning home is a fortunate and happy time, although it is also a critical turning point in your senior's recovery process. A 2009 New England Journal of Medicine study estimated that almost 20 percent of patients were readmitted within 30 day post discharge. Often, mistakes made in medications, missed follow-up medical appointments, poor nutrition, dehydration and lack of safety preparation in the home are the issues that can lead to re-admission.

    GETTING HELP WHEN RETURNING HOME:

Even if you are planning on taking care of your senior when he or she returns home, there may be some aspects of their recovery plan that you might need help with. The KRS Home Care can help with many of the critical post-discharge care needs that will help lead your senior to a full and complete recovery even if it is only needed for short term.

THE KEY ELEMENTS OF THE KRS HOME CARE NETWORK'S RETURNING HOME PROGRAM INCLUDE:

    • Discharge coordination and execution—KRS Home Caregivers will work with your senior's hospital discharge planning staff to develop a detailed plan of care and instructions. These instructions will be followed through by family and other home caregivers to make sure your senior has a plan to ensure a successful recovery.

    • Medication management— KRS Home Caregivers will work with you and/or your loved one to help them organize and track their medication to make sure that they are taken as directed and to help prevent adverse effects.

    • Follow-up physician visit assistance— KRS Home Caregivers can make sure your loved one keeps track of and attends follow-up medical appointments including providing and/or arranging for his or her transportation to the appointments.

    • Nutrition management— KRS Home Caregivers can assist with meal planning, shopping and preparation to ensure that your senior loved one is getting wholesome, healthy foods and plenty of hydration that will assist with their recovery.

    • Warning sign monitoring and notification— KRS Home Caregivers are familiar with and trained to watch for warning signs and take appropriate action to help prevent complications and re-admission.

    • Record keeping— KRS Home Caregivers are also trained to track specific data on your senior loved one's progress to share with his/her medical providers. This is important for both tracking progress and to help update, if necessary, the original discharge plan of care.

    • Returning home from the hospital can be a wonderful time for your senior loved one. Seeking help from KRS Home Caregivers with at home care can mean less stress for you and an easier transition to full recovery for your senior.

      TRANSPORTATION

WE WILL HELP YOU GET WHERE YOU WANT TO GO!

When you have a doctor's appointment, need to go to the hospital for tests, or simply want to do some shopping, KRS Home Caregivers can help you get where you want to go.

      MORE THAN JUST A RIDE

While KRS Home Care is not a taxi, bus, limousine, ambulance, ambulate, or transit service, we provide incidental transportation in conjunction with our companionship services. That means we won't just pick you up and drop you at your destination. We'll help you get ready, accompany you to your appointment, take notes (at your request), stay with you until you are ready to leave, and then take you back home. Also, when you return home, we will stay with you until you are settled in and ready to safely resume your activities.
We prefer at least a 24-hour notice and can provide service for a single event, or on a regular schedule, seven days a week including holidays.

      REST AND RECHARGE

The role you've taken as a family caregiver is an important one. Your loved one and other family members depend on you. As the primary caregiver, not only do you deserve an occasional break, but also it is necessary for you to recharge your physical, spiritual and emotional batteries. It’s critical that you take the time to care for yourself — doctor’s appointments, regular physical exams, counselling sessions or support group meetings — to ensure you’re not getting rundown and that you will be up to the challenges of this daunting responsibility.

      A VACATION FROM WORRIES

The KRS Home Caregivers are ready to step in with the same considerate care and concern for your loved one’s needs so you can get away for any reason. Whether you need to shop, attend a child’s school event, go to church, exercise or just have lunch with a friend; our respite care services allow you to relax and enjoy, knowing your family member is well cared for in your absence. Our respite care program is also a wonderful solution when you go on vacation, travel for the holidays, or attend an out-of-town event such as a wedding or reunion.

      TAILORED TO MEET YOUR NEEDS

KRS Home Care can provide respite care daily, weekly or as needed. We are happy to arrange care for just a few hours, overnight or 24-hour care while you are away.

      FIND TIME FOR YOURSELF

Our service gives you time to relax, pursue activities that give you joy and rediscover yourself. While respite care can’t change your loved one’s situation, it can help you maintain your sense of being and significantly improve your ability to deal with the situation and handle challenges in a positive way.

      SHORT-TERM RECOVERY

      NEED HELP TEMPORARILY?
